It is issued in foods, condoms, cosmetics, and medications all contain sunset yellow. It has also been used in confectionery, desserts, snacks, sauces, and preserved fruits. To achieve a brown coloring in foods like chocolates and caramel, sunset yellow is frequently combined with amaranth also termed E123 to reach that chocolate smooth texture. It is also utilized in sauces, pastries, snacks, confectionery, and the preservation of fruits.

The main application of the fd&c yellow 6 is in the food products like soft drinks, breadcrumbs, orange jelly and squash, citrus marmalade, lemon curd, Swiss roll, cheese sauce, hot chocolate, chips, red sauces, etc. They can be found in most of the products that are of the color red, yellow or orange. Along with other food colors, sunset yellow dye in also uses for inducing a brown color for products like chocolate.
Physical and Chemical Properties
Orange-red powder or granules. Odorless. Strong hygroscopicity. Light-resistant and heat-resistant. Stable in citric acid, tartaric acid. It changed to brownish red in case of alkali. Soluble in water, neutral and acidic aqueous solution is orange yellow, alkaline red-brown, soluble in concentrated sulfuric acid to orange liquid, diluted with water yellow. Soluble in glycerol, propylene glycol. Slightly soluble in ethanol.
